Your Streetbank Stories

We’d love to hear your Streetbank stories! We’re beginning to get some press coverage (click on Press tab at the bottom for more details) such as in the Daily Candy, the Hammersmith and Fulham News and next week the Big Issue….

It is exciting because it means word of Streetbank is spreading more deeply (there are more than 800 of you in Hammersmith) and more widely (hello Edmonton, Canada!). But we are often asked for stories of how Streetbank has been useful or led to real relationships or wierd and wonderful things are being offered. If you could let us know we would be super grateful and it will allow all those journalists to write some more colourful stories about Streetbank. Big thanks as ever.

I am a coordinator for a Neighbourhood Watch group. When we had an inaugural meeting a year or so ago, several people said it gave them a sense of community for the first time since living in the area. It’s difficult to keep that going, so I have emailed the group about StreetBank in the hope that we can have some new, friendly neighbourly initiatives. Two new members so far and hopefully more to come. I’ve also printed off a flyer and will attach that to a lamp post locally. Amy (below) said she had no nearby StreetBankers – you need to spread the word yourself, methinks. It’s such a great idea and an easy-to-use site – let’s hope it changes the world!

I was emailed your website by the Housing association that I live at today. Streetbank is excellent, just what everyone should know about especially with the way finances are in the uk, we can all contribute sharing our skills, and lending items that others can not afford to buy. I will be printing some of the flyers to take to the local church I attend and another one of the churches I attend for the big events we have, which will cover most of Manchester Area in UK, I will also Email it to all my friends who live in England and USA

i read about you n the evening standard!!
i think this is an absolutely brilliant idea – although it’s rather depressing that there isn’t a single person in a 1-mile radius from me that uses streetbank… :E

Travelled on the train to London & reading the article in the free Evening Standard newspaper,
I thought Streetbank was an excellent idea!
We live in a conservation area, Park Langley. We have many friends within & including surrounding areas. Why not contribute to our neighbourhood community?
I shall be emailing the link, hopefully we can all contribute to our social welfare without the expense & at the same time getting to know people.

Hi Streetbank team…. I wonder is it possible to post a link to the articles in Scotland on Sunday and Big Issue, if they are out there on the web? I’d be really interested to read them…

So I had a good Streetbank experience today that was quite fun…

I put a note up asking to borrow a fondue set for a dinner party and also asking for dolls clothes so that i can make a box frame/sculpture as a gift for a friend who’s having a new baby. By the end of the day I had two offers of fondue sets and two offers of dolls clothes! So today I went round to pick up the fondue set and got on really well with the lady who was loaning it. She said she uses Streetbank all the time. She also gave me some dolls clothes on the condition that I came round and did some craft making with her 8 year old daughter sometime. So I am going to go round and teach her daughter how to make box frames like the one I’m making!

I am excited about having my fondue dinner party with enough fondue sets for a long table full of people and about surprising my friend with a creative gift, but also I’m excited that I have made a connection with a family in my neighbourhood that I would never have met before!
