The Big Lunch just got bigger: FREE training for volunteers at the Eden Project

The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by The Big Lottery Fund. The perfect recipe for having fun with your neighbours, The Big Lunch is a very simple idea that calls on communities to host their own Big Lunch events – this year on Sunday June 7^th 2015.  

Millions of people (including lots of our Streetbank members) have taken part since the initiative started in 2009, as The Big Lunch is becoming part of the annual calendar for neighbours across the UK. 

Big Lunch research shows that a simple neighbourly get-together can be a catalyst; with over 60% of those that take part going on to take part in another type of what the government calls ‘social action’ – doing something good locally. 

Noticing this trend, The Big Lottery Fund has funded a second Eden Project initiative: Big Lunch Extras; a training programme to help individuals run projects that will bring about positive change in their community.   That could be anything from befriending schemes and book clubs to community gardens, festivals and kitchens.  

If you’re a member of Streetbank, wanting to get more people sharing things and helping neighbours, why not use Big Lunch Extras as a springboard?  We find neighbourhood meet-ups, projects and events that take place offline can be just the thing to get more people active online.

It starts with a free three-day residential training event at the Eden Project and there are a team of ‘Catalysts’ to provide support as participants develop their ideas. Sound good?
